This is the best car I have owned to date. I traded in my well loved 2020 Corolla SE (also a fantastic vehicle) for this car and I absolutely LOVE it. It has sport mode, keyless entry and push to start, wireless apple carplay, and it handles beautifully. I wish I could have purchased one of the higher trims (I got the SEL trim which has the less powerful engine) for the better horsepower but I love this thing. ❤️

As gas prices soared to almost $5.00 per gallon in California, my 2020 Jeep Rubicon was costing as much in fuel as the monthly payment. I did a lot of research on EVs and and decided to go with the Kona Electric. I went with the Select trim with the convenience package, pretty much all the bells and whistles of the Limited trim without the leather seats. I’m very impressed with this car. Off the line it will put you back in your seat, even when not in Sport mode. The front seats are very comfortable. The back seats are good for children or shorter adults, but if there’s a child’s car seat in the equation the rear seats become cramped. Cargo space is adequate for groceries and with the back seats folded down it can be enough room for weekend projects or a two person road trip. The technology is amazing. The touch screen is vibrant, clear and transitions are smooth. The speakers are ample and provide crisp sound. Overall, switching from a gas guzzler to zero emissions has been satisfying. The most impressive aspect of the Hyundai Kona Electric is the quality to price point ratio. This car is the perfect introduction to EVs and because of my experience with Hyundai I really look forward to buying an Ioniq 5 when they’re available.

The car is really great! It is fun to drive and very responsive! The lane/steering assist takes some time to get used to, as does the regenerative braking but once you have it down the feel of the car is very intuitive. I want to touch more on the regenerative braking, it all depends on how well you control the accelerator pedal. If you have regen braking on especially if you have it on level 2 or 3 once you lift your foot off of the accelerator it is just like hitting the brakes. Some people think it makes the car jerky and hard to drive, but getting used to it and learning how to use it right is key. Also it allows you to save on brake use and you can almost drive completely off of one pedal. If you go with the SEL model it is worth the extra dollars to get the convenience package that adds things like heated seats (which use less battery than the heater) power seats, wireless charging for your phone, sun roof and a few other features that are great to have. The range on the car is great as well! Close enough to compete with Tesla Model 3 but still wouldn't trump the model 3 in my opinion, however you are paying more fir the Tesla and also you wouldn't get the federal tax credit with the Tesla either.
